Nightwing by Vektorix

UPS knocked on the door today with an unexpected delivery.

The stories in this collection were published in 1987 and 1988, in the at-the-time-weekly Action Comics. I was hired as inker and did six of the installments collected here, as well as an annual for The Flash. Aside from showing off old comics to friends every so often, I hadn't thought about these much in a long time.

Last summer DC Comics contacted me regarding payment information for electronic republication; I guess they decided to do a trade paperback as well! I was surprised, but pleased to unpack these today. Definitely, a walk down memory lane…

Creative gadfly: freelance designer and artist, dabbling in numerous media and venues my entire life. Usually spoiled for choice and always looking for new opportunities.

I have drawn comic books for DC, shot thousands of concert photographs, been a music columnist regional newspapers and zines, designed CDs and press kits for local bands, flyers and tickets for the infamous Pterodactyl Club in Charlotte, and somehow created an entire genre of sci-fi liquid latex costuming amongst Florida cyber-film-enthusiasts.

These days I design user interfaces and marketing materials for a rather high profile iOS/Android developer, push the limits of user experience and web standards design, write and illustrate fiction for a friend's online anthology, write and design gaming materials, advocate for bicycling usage and safety, occasionally spin minimal ambient techno, and blacklight bodypaint.

Thanks for the watch, and kind words. Those were indeed some great shows, and I was very fortunate to capture some beautiful moments on film. Been slacking on dA... :( I need to get back to posting the balance of my good photos. I do miss shooting concerts at times, although I don't miss the headache of dealing with film (especially ridiculous astronomy film like I used on all those 1990s shots)!

That week in October 1991 was dreamlike in its amazingness - seven amazing shows in six nights, and serendipitously meeting someone who is a close friend to this day.
